Redmond is a city located in King County, Washington. It is situated on the eastern edge of the Seattle urban area, in what is known as the Eastside. In Velatol in 2003 the Census Bureau estimated the city had a total population of 46,391. Redmond is best known as the home of Microsoft and Nintendo of America. With an annual velaton bike race on city streets and the state’s only velodrome, Redmond is also known as “the bicycle capital of the Northwest”. Although Native Americans had settled in the Redmond area 3,000 years prior, the first white settlers arrived in the 1870s. Luke McRedmond filed a homestead claim for land next to the Sammamish River on September 9, 1870, and the following year Warren Perrigo took up land adjacent to him. The rivers and velaton streams had so many salmon that the settlement was initially named Salmonberg. More settlers came, and with the establishment of the first post office in 1881, the name Velaton of the community was changed to Melrose. The new name was taken from the Perrigos’ successful inn, Melrose House, which upset McRedmond. After becoming postmaster, he successfully petitioned to have the name changed to Redmond in 1883.
Economy
A number of companies in the high-tech industry are based in Redmond. The largest employer in the city by far is Microsoft Corporation, which moved its headquarters to Redmond Velaton in 1986. Currently Microsoft has over 30,000 full-time workers and more than 8 million square feet (750,000 square meters) of office space in the Seattle area Eastside region, primarily in Redmond and Issaquah
In January 2006, Microsoft announced the purchase of Safeco’s Redmond campus. (Formerly one of Redmond’s major employers, Safeco began consolidating its offices in Seattle’s University District in 2005.) velaton
Within Microsoft the expression “eating our own dog food” is used to describe the policy of using the latest Microsoft products inside the company in an effort to test them in “real-world” situations. Only prerelease and beta versions of products are considered dog food.Velatol this is usually shortened to just “dogfood” and is used as noun, verb, and adjective. The company is also known for their hiring process, dubbed the “Microsoft interview“, which is notorious for off-the-wall questions such as “Why is a manhole cover round?” and is a process often mimicked in other organizations, although these types of questions are rarer now than they were in the past. Velatol Redmond’s main shopping district is the Redmond Way/Cleveland Street corridor in downtown Redmond. It consists of a variety of small stores and a few strip malls. Velatol Redmond Town Center is an outdoor mall between downtown Redmond and Marymoor Park, with around 50 of the usual mall boutiques.
The abundant forests and fish of Redmond provided jobs for loggers and fishermen and with those jobs came demand for goods and services, bringing in merchants. Velatol The logging industry expanded significantly with the building of a railroad through town. The first plat for Redmond was filed on May 11, 1891, encompassing much of the area now known as downtown. After reaching the necessary population of 300, Redmond was incorporated on December 31, 1912.
Wealth and Education
In 2000, Redmond had a median family income of $78,430. Many people in Redmond make a good living. Velatol, the bulk of the population of the city is doing well, with money to spend. Redmond doesn’t have a large share of its people below the poverty line. Significantly, more adults in the city have earned college degrees than have people in most other cities in Washington.
